For lawyers

Your client has a criminal matter in Spain. I can be your colleague here.

I work with lawyers from other countries whose clients are arrested, investigated, tried or convicted in Spain, or who face a European Arrest Warrant or an extradition request here. You keep the relationship with your client; I take care of the Spanish proceedings and keep you informed at every step.

What I can do

Act as Spanish defence counsel from the first hearing: police station, duty court, investigation, trial and appeals before the Provincial Courts and the Supreme Court.

Handle European Arrest Warrant and extradition proceedings before the National Court in Madrid, including release applications and grounds for refusal or conditional surrender.

Deal with the enforcement of sentences: suspension, prison classification, permits, transfer of sentenced persons and the effects of foreign convictions.

Prepare written opinions on Spanish criminal law and procedure for use in proceedings abroad, and review Spanish documents your client has received.

How we work together

We agree from the start who speaks to the client and how. Many colleagues prefer to remain the client's main contact; I adapt to that. I report on each step in writing so you can pass it on accurately.

When the defence needs documents or information from your country (court decisions, proof that a case was closed, evidence of residence or family ties), I tell you precisely what is needed and why, so that it arrives in time and in a usable form.

I work in Spanish. For our correspondence I use translation tools, and official documents for the court are translated as the procedure requires.

Dual defence in European Arrest Warrant cases

A person arrested in Spain on a European Arrest Warrant has the right to appoint a lawyer in the issuing country to assist the Spanish lawyer (Directive 2013/48/EU, article 10), with legal aid there where needed (Directive 2016/1919/EU). This is where our cooperation is most useful: you know the case at home, its real state and whether it can be resolved without a surrender; I handle the hearing in Madrid and the grounds for refusal or conditions.

Fees

Fees are agreed case by case, in writing, before I start: who is invoiced, what each stage includes and how payment is made. I give a fixed quote per stage, as I do with any client.

How we will understand each other

I work in Spanish. With my clients from abroad I use translation tools to read and answer messages, and we manage well that way. At the police station and in court the law gives you a free interpreter, and I make sure that right is respected. If you write to me in English, I will answer you.

Common questions

Can you act urgently if my client has just been arrested in Spain?

Yes. Send me the client's full name, place of arrest and, if you have it, the case reference. For an arrest under a European Arrest Warrant or Interpol alert, the first hearing is in Madrid within 72 hours.

Do you need a power of attorney?

For the police station and the first hearing it is enough for your client to appoint me. For later stages, the appointment can be formalised in Spain or before a notary abroad, depending on the case.

Can you cover cases outside Madrid?

Yes. I act throughout Spain, and when a case needs presence on the ground I work with trusted local lawyers while I direct the defence.

Is it urgent?

Call me on 688 884 488. I answer the phone myself, at any hour.
